Rules and Regulations
- Dress Code: The objective of the Dress Code is to maintain a positive image in line with the School’s image and reputation as a Premier Private Education Institute in Singapore. Therefore students are prohibited from wearing inappropriate clothing and/or accessories.
- Attendance: BAC encourages students to be active participants in the learning process, empowering them to become independent learners, and motivating them to achieve their full potential. BAC has a tamper-proof and stringent students’ attendance monitoring system.
The attendance monitoring system includes the following:
- BAC sets a minimum attendance requirement for all courses and modes of learning. A student must satisfy an attendance requirement of 75% for non-STP students (includes synchronous e-learning and classroom based, if applicable, for asynchronous learning). This is clearly communicated to the students at the start of the course during orientation and stipulated in the Student Handbook.
- The class timetable is handed out to the student at the commencement of the course. A copy of the timetable is available on the Learning Management System. All timetables are finalised by the Principal.
- Attendance shall be taken by the individual subject lecturers during the class via the Learning Management System. Lecturers shall use the fields indicated to state whether the student had arrived for class on time or late or whether the student was absent via the Learning Management System.
- Lecturers will mark a student as “Late” if they arrive after late within the first 30-minutes of commencement of class. If they arrive to class after 30-minutes and without a valid reason, the student will be marked as being absent from the session.
- Lecturers will also be taking attendance at the end of the class and indicate whether the student had left early or remained throughout the session.
- The data of attendance on LMS shall be used to obtain a Summary of attendance at the end of a calendar month. This summary shall be the basis of an Attendance Report which is used to monitor the regularity of attendance of a student.
- Where student’s attendance is unsatisfactory (such as frequent lateness or absenteeism), intervention measures shall be put in place by the Deputy Principal or the Principal as stated in (viii).
- Full-Time Students must submit a medical certificate or other justifications via email, LMS or hard copy for BAC’s records. Students may pass the documents personally to the Records Manager or may email the Records Manager accordingly. The Records Manager will then file the MC into the student file.
- Full-Time Students who are absent for more than 3 times without any valid reasons in a month will be contacted to be counselled by either the Director of Studies or Deputy Principal or Principal to ascertain the reasons for the student’s absenteeism. Details of the counselling shall be recorded in Counselling Form – FRM036. Where no improvements are seen in the attendance after the said counselling, a warning letter may be issued by the Director of Studies/Deputy Principal/Principal. Thereafter, the student’s attendance would closely be monitored to ensure that there are improvements. Where improvements are still not evident, the Deputy Principal or the Principal may get in touch with the parent/legal guardian of the student (for those below the age of 18) and subject the student to subsequent rounds of counselling.
- Part-time students are strongly encouraged to attend classes regularly (either face-to-face or online) so that they are in compliance with the attendance requirements that BAC prescribes. BAC does however take into consideration of part-time students work and family commitments and other matters they need to attend to. A summary of part-time students’ attendance will be generated from the LMS. This will be assessed and for students who fall below the attendance of 75% for a given month, an advisory note on attendance will be sent to the student to encourage him/her to attend classes more regularly. The advisory note will include an option to set an appointment either in person or online to meet and discuss with the Deputy Principal or Director of Studies. Details of the counselling (if any) shall be recorded in Counselling Form – FRM036.
- Attendance requirements are similarly imposed for synchronous classes conducted online and the same process as applicable for part-time students is extended for synchronous e-learning learners. For students who have signed up exclusively for the E-learning courses, BAC encourages an attendance of at least 75%. This will be assessed on a monthly basis and for students who fall below the attendance of 75% for a given month, an advisory note on attendance will be sent to the student to encourage him/her to attend classes more regularly. The advisory note will include an option to set an online appointment to meet and discuss with the Deputy Principal or Director of Studies. Details of the counselling (if any) shall be recorded in Counselling Form – FRM036.
Attendance Monitoring System (International Students) (Process)
- The Management Representative shall notify ICA of international students with poor attendance (lower than 90%) on a monthly basis (where it is necessary). International students shall be notified via various communication channels (such as orientation and Student Handbook) that attendance below 90% may result in the cancellation of student pass.
- Should a student be absent for 2 days in a month without valid reason, the Director of Studies or Deputy Principal or Principal will issue a warning letter as an immediate form of intervention. The Director of studies or Deputy Principal or Principal will arrange to meet the student who is absent for 2 days in a month without valid reason, to find out the reasons for the absence and to counsel the student. Details of the counselling (if any) shall be recorded in Counselling Form – FRM036.
- Should a student be absent for a continuous period of 3 days or more without a valid reason (e.g. medical exigency), the Director of Studies or Deputy Principal or Principal will make attempts to contact the student to know the reasons of absenteeism. If the student remains uncontactable for more than 7 days or reasons given are deemed to be invalid, Director of Studies or Deputy Principal or Principal shall proceed to escalate the matter to the Management Representative who will then inform ICA to cancel the student pass accordingly.
- BAC shall only accept MC’s issued by local clinics and hospitals as valid reasons for being absent on medical grounds. Any other documents should only be accepted on a case-by-case basis with full justification and be acceptable by the Director of Studies or the Deputy Principal or Principal (for example, evidence of bereavement in the family of the student, or other family emergencies).
- STP students will be required as per the timetable stipulated by BAC to spend at least 3 hours per school day, 5 days per week (with the exception of prevailing public holidays or school term breaks or exam period) at BAC by engaging in academic activities and/or related activities.
