The learning objectives and assessment criteria are directed to professional, effective and practical presentation of work, oral and written communication skills, demonstration of relevant content and practical knowledge, and higher-order thinking with advanced and integrated application of professional knowledge and skills. Satisfactory completion of this programme will contribute to an advanced and integrated understanding of a complex body of legal professional knowledge.

Successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate in Law may entitle you to transfer your credits onto further postgraduate programmes and, in particular, to the Postgraduate Diploma in Law. Students who successfully complete the Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma in Law will be able to apply for the Master of Laws with the University of Hertfordshire for a one-year top-up to graduate with the LLM.

International Commercial Arbitration: Jurisdiction & Enforcement

  • Examine the scope and limitations of the arbitration tribunal's power over the dispute and the parties, including arbitrability, the principle of Kompetenz-Kompetenz, protective and provisional measures, the form and content of arbitration awards, grounds for challenge and enforcement, and multiparty and multicontract disputes.

International Commercial Arbitration: The Infrastructure

  • Build a comprehensive understanding of arbitration terminology, concepts, legal texts and major institutions, together with the legal issues surrounding the formal and substantive validity of arbitration agreements and the complexities of drafting them.
