Student Support Services

1. Orientation Programme

All studies are preceded and initiated by an Orientation Programme, the contents of which are informational. Information such as course structures, timetables and nature of assessment are discussed in detail. Related matters concerning your learning needs, student support services and technical help, are also presented. Key email contacts will be highlighted for students to know who they can reach out to for various matters.

Students will be introduced to the vision, mission and core values of the school and how the school’s operations and activities are all designed to inculcate the same. They will also be encouraged to take an active part in student activities that are organised by the school together with the Student Council.

The Orientation Programme also addresses the student’s rights and responsibilities, including policies and procedures effecting refunds and grievances. The essentials of the programme have been summarised in this Student Handbook. In a nutshell, students will have an overview of BAC, what we do and what is expected of an BAC student.

BACs Student Orientation Session covers detailed information which includes, but which is not limited, to the following:

  1. Welcome Address
  2. Student Handbook – key information such as Academic Staff, Fee Protection Scheme, Refund Policy, Transfer policy, Withdrawal Policy, Deferment Policy, Usage of School facilities, Attendance Requirement, Expulsion/Suspension, Grievance and Dispute Resolution, Medical Insurance Coverage and Claims Process
  3. Details that students should take note about SSG
  4. Classes – Lectures & Tutorials
  5. Administrative Support
  6. Academic Support
  7. Where applicable, course specific information on exam registration or university registration and other university articulation matters.
  8. Information on course progression assessment and general course content as applicable to the particular course that the students enroll into.
  9. Post qualification career guidance
  10. Course transfer, withdrawal and deferment process

  14. * Where applicable BAC shall incorporate into the Orientation Programme for STP Holders, information on assistance to international students to help them to adapt to the local environment or seek other support services. For example, general or specialist health services (physiological, dental, mental), drug/alcohol abuse education, problem gambling, sexuality education, MOM and ICA regulations on employment advice or services on accommodation options for international students.BAC also informs students during orientation about course deferment / extension on compassionate grounds where there is a good reason deemed acceptable to the school.

For non-STP students the following may be acceptable reasons:

  1. sickness or poor health where the student needs to have an extended period of rest
  2. overseas posting for work/business.

For STP students the following may be acceptable reasons:

  1. family members who are very sick or dying where the student’s presence at home is required
  2. traumatic family circumstances (e.g. death of a parent in an accident) where the family needs to be together to support each other
  3. sickness or poor health where the student needs to have an extended period of rest

2. Student Support 

BAC strives to provide a comprehensive range of student support services that meet the needs and expectations of the students and to enhance their educational experience with BAC. BAC has facilities and/or programmes to enrich the students’ educational experiences and develop them holistically and value add to their learning experiences so that they become socially responsible people. Such activities would include Mooting practice, Court Visits, Career Forums, Skills Centric Forums, Social Outreach Activities. This is also in line with the objectives of implementing programmes and strategies to develop and promote students’ education and career guidance and/or employability skills. 

The school provides a range of student support services to meet the needs of the students and to enhance their educational experience.  These include: 

  1. Student orientation programme by BAC staff.
  2. Medical insurance coverage for hospitalization and related medical treatment for the entire course duration for full-time students. (Exemption for Singaporean/PR students if they are already covered by their own medical insurance plan.)
  3. Student Assistance Support System (SASSY) for students who request personal academic assistance from lecturers.
  4. Library facilities, lounge and study areas.
  5. Learning Management System via BAC Learn
  6. Access to LinkedIn Learning for all students
  7. Office365 account with dedicated personal email account for each student 
  8. Copilot app together with the Office365 account 
  9. “Global Faculty” online sessions to expose students to diverse academic views 
  10. Proprietary e-learning library “ABACUS”

3. Holistic Learning 

BAC’s commitment to provide professional, personalised and holistic care for students is achieved through involving the students in activities outside the formal curriculum.  These include:  

  1. Mooting Practice – Mooting is compulsory for all full-time students and optional for part-time students on the Bachelor of Laws, Certificate of Higher Education in Common Law and Diploma in Law programmes.  Mooting is intended to encourage the development of debating and presentation skills tailor-made to the argumentative presentation of legal issues which would be essential to a student’s character building in preparation for the work environment.
  2. Court visits led and organised by students with the support of the school – Students are given an opportunity to make a visit to the High Court, Court of Appeal or State Courts to witness trials or Appellate hearings. These initiatives are led by the students in consultation with BAC.
  3. Community engagement led and organised by students with the support of the school – BAC aims to support at least one community outreach activity every year. These initiatives are led by the students in consultation with BAC.
  4. Other Student activities – Social activities that are inclusive but not limited to organising Alumni Events.
  5. Online Courses – facilitating self-directed learning by providing students with access to LinkedIn Learning. All BAC students are given access to a wide range of courses outside the scope of the curriculum. It is intended to provide an avenue for skills and leadership development for students on their own accord for career guidance and to enhance employability skills. 

4. Academic integrity is the foundation of an academic community and each student is individually responsible for sustaining such integrity. Toward that end students shall: 

  • Submit only their own work
  • Not copy another student’s paper
  • Not use or consult unauthorised materials and/or artificial intelligence during an examination
  • Not pass off the work of another student as their own
  • Not be engaged in any form of collusion with another student during an examination
  • Not falsely swear or bear untrue witness
  • Not provide others with appropriated information or materials
  • Not represent oneself as another student and sit in his/her exam place
  • Not furnish false or misleading information to University officials and BAC staff
  • Not make any later claims about degrees or grades, which are not true
  • Not be involved in cheating or fraud of any kind 

5. Learning Management System 

The LMS, Learning Management system, is BAC’s student portal and virtual learning environment and is updated with lecture notes, workbooks  and additional study materials. Upon registration with BAC, students will be provided with their username and password within seven days from the commencement of the Course. Most of the resources published will be available for download bearing in mind some books with copyright issues will not be downloadable. Where relevant, class recordings will be saved on the students’ learning management portal to access anytime at their convenience throughout the year until the examinations.

The UK faculty team will provide recorded guest lectures for a significant number of designated hours for core subjects and elective subjects in addition to the regular classes taught by our BAC College (Singapore) faculty.
